10 Common Resume Mistakes and How to Fix Them
- Typos. Read it aloud, and have someone else read it.
- A generic resume. Adjust it for each role.
- Duties instead of results. Write what changed because of your work.
- No numbers. Add figures: users, money, time saved.
- Fancy design. Columns and graphics can break software parsing.
- Too long. Cut anything older than 10 to 15 years or unrelated.
- Weak verbs. Replace "responsible for" with "led", "built" or "reduced".
- Missing keywords. Mirror the posting where true.
- Unprofessional email address. Use a simple name-based one.
- Lying or stretching. Background checks and interviews find it quickly.
